Week 5

Week 5

This week in class I covered the offense IAW ADP 3-90 and Precombat Inspections (PCI). I started the class out with a clip from the movie Blackhawk down, where they are preparing for mission but leaving a lot behind. Later on the movie they end up being it. This happened because no one checked to ensure they had the proper equipment on them. I gave the presentation on PCI's then had them conduct one. The practical exercise consisted of two exercises. One was a inspection of their uniforms the other was of what gear they would need to bring on a up coming event. After that I proceeded with the lecture on the offense.  I finished up the class with a map with a over lay(drawing on it showing movements), which we walked through together on the different offense movements.

For their leadership lab they conducted Land Navigation classes which consisted of several stations. The stations covered the basics of land nav such as map reading, compasses, pace count and terrain boards. It was conducted at the pier just north of the school.

The students are being shown how to read a terrain board.

At this station they are learning to properly use a compass.

The cadets are counting how many paces it takes them to walk 100m. This way they can count their pace and know how far they have traveled.

One my students is showing are freshman how to read a map.
