Week 4

Week 4

This week we went over Battle Drills as a main focus and the cadets conducted Individual movement techniques(IMT). I started the class off with a 9min clip from Band of Brothers. It included several types of Individual movement techniques and Battle Drills. I had the class watch it with this in mind and then discussed it afterward. I asked them to give me examples in the clip that the IMT's were used properly and where they were not as well as Battle Drills. Once we finished discussing the clip, I moved in to the slideshow presentation. It briefly went over Battle Drills and key points to know about them. The week prior I assigned homework on some Battle Drills. When we came to this portion of the slide show I asked individuals to explain them to me as well as the importance of them.

Battles Drills: are group/collective skills designed to teach a unit to react and accomplish the mission in common combat situations. Examples include react to ambush, react to chemical attack, and evacuate wounded personnel from a vehicle

The lead lab consisted of the cadets conducting IMT's. A IMT is typically used to get to one place to another under fire. They are 3-5 second rush, high crawl and low crawl. Each are used for a proper instance. The executed the training by going through a round robin being shown how to conduct the IMT then doing a practical exercise.

Example of a 3-5 sec. rush

Notice with a high crawl they have their heads up

Low crawl you keep you head down all the way

Week 3

Week 3

First week of Instructing Classes

Land Navigation was the main topic covered in my Military Science class this week. The first class was conducted at the ROTC office at DePaul University. Started the class by introducing myself and then having the students introduce themselves. Once we introduced ourselves I conducted a review from last week. This way I could asses their knowledge on the topic, since I did not teach them last week. After the review I proceeded with teaching the next portion. I finished the class with a practical exercise.

Once again I introduced myself and had the students introduce themselves in my second class, which was in the Quinlan Building at Loyola. Both classes had briefly covered Land Navigation in the 100 level course last year. This is why I had given the second class a quiz on last weeks lesson. Even though they did not receive it. This way I was able to once again focus on the parts that the students did not know. I then gave the second class the same practical exercise as my first class.

This weeks Lab was conducted at DePaul University and focused on team building. The cadets had four challenges set up and rotated to each throughout the morning. One example of the challenges they conducted was the human knot. This is where you have several people holding hands and intertwined together. They need to work together in order to untangle themselves. The ROTC cadets finished the week off by taking a physical fitness test at North Park University. The test consist of timed push-ups and sit-ups as well as a 2 mile run.
The ROTC cadets taking the PT test and being graded by myself as well as others from my unit.

Week 2

Week 2

Introduction

My name is Jeffrey Cristel, I am a Drill Sargent in the United States Army Reserve. I transferred to Loyola last year as a History major. My internship that I will be participating in Fall 2014 is through the Loyola ROTC program. I will be instructing the 200 level Military Science course for the rest of the semester. There are two classes, one consisting of students from North Park University and the other class is made up of Loyola students. The course consists of several areas related to the military such as history, drill and ceremony as well as basic soldier skills. I will also assist in there leadership labs, which are conducted every week that all the cadets participate in. In addition to teaching the class, I will be assisting in several other ROTC events throughout the semester as they occur.
I'm ensuring the senior cadets are properly instructing the freshman in basic Drill and Ceremony.
